RealTime Lab’s Clinical Mycotoxin Test now Directly Available to Consumers in 28 States + DC

RealTime Laboratories (Carrollton, TX) has announced that it is now able to offer its comprehensive toxic mold Mycotoxin panel directly to consumers in 28 states + DC. Under state laws that are intended to put more health care decisions in the hands of the patient, these tests can now be ordered directly from the Realtime Labs web site (www.realtimelab.com) without having to see a health care provider first. A list of states where the test can be ordered is provided, as well as contact information for physician referrals for those residents of states where direct ordering is not yet possible.
The test is simple, requiring only that a urine sample be sent back to RealTime Labs. All instructions for the test and a pre-paid shipper are included with the order. Results are e-mailed to the patient by encrypted e-mail within 10 days of receipt of the sample in the laboratory. “This is an important test for the health of individuals who are or may have been exposed to a home or building, which is harboring mold, particularly water damaged buildings” states David Murcott, CEO of RealTime Labs.
Mycotoxins are extremely toxic by-products of mold growth and are generally associated with more significant health problems than the mold itself. Mycotoxins found in the home include 1. Aflatoxins, which are the most potent natural cancer causing agents known to man; 2. Trichothecenes, which have been used as chemical warfare agents; and 3. Gliotoxins, known to suppress the human immune system. Mycotoxins are also known to be transmitted from mother to child through breast milk. The RealTime Lab Mycotoxin test panel can detect 15 of the most common and toxic Mycotoxins in human urine, and has been prescribed by over 1500 health care professionals in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
“Direct Access Testing (the technical name for testing under the new laws) simplifies the process significantly for consumers”, states Murcott. “Ordering is easy, and it can be a faster, cost effective alternative to the conventional process that requires an appointment with a health care professional to order the test. We do, however, recommend that if the test is positive, the patient should see their health care provider for decisions on treatment”.

RealTime Laboratories adds Gliotoxin Test to Comprehensive Mycotoxin Test Panel

Real Time Laboratories Inc. (RTL), Carrollton, TX has expanded its comprehensive Clinical and Environmental Mycotoxin testing panel to 15, with the addition of a test for a Gliotoxin derivative.

Gliotoxin is a mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus fumigatus, a major cause of death in immunocompromised patients (e.g. transplant, HIV, Cancer). Gliotoxin has been demonstrated to have significant immunosuppressive effects and may play a role in the evasion of host defenses in Invasive Aspergillosis. Aspergillus fumigatus is also commonly detected in the ERMI (Environmental Relative Moldiness Index) test on environmental samples taken from water-damaged buildings and homes. Using the Gliotoxin derivative ELISA test, RTL has demonstrated the presence of the Gliotoxin derivative in serum from patients with confirmed and presumptive Invasive Aspergillosis, environmental samples that were positive for Aspergillus fumigatus, and urine of patients that had tested positive for other mycotoxins in previous clinical screens.
